Those of us who are trying to make money online but have a limited budget need to think outside the box. One of the first mistakes many people make when they start any kind of internet business is to fall for the ‘big money’ affiliate programs. There are several reasons why these should be avoided.
Sure, it’s no doubt happened and continues to happen for a small handful of people. Some people who get in on something early and work hard make their way to the top of the search engines and make huge amounts of money. The problem is, they don’t give up their spots easily. They take those earnings and use them to make absolutely sure they stay at the top.
Do you really think you can compete in a niche against affiliate marketers whose monthly spending budget is in the tens of thousands of dollars? Sure, you can subscribe to an article submission service and get your content out there, but so can they and they can do it better because they can afford to.
You don’t need to roll over and die, though. Small militia’s faced with an overwhelming armed force use guerilla tactics and so can you. They may have very few resources, but they use what they have and, if they’re persistent, they win the war.
Take a minute, open your mind and look around you. What have you got that the big time marketers don’t? Could you put that scrapbook album to use as a marketing tool?
As laughable as that may sound, it could be your golden calf! People all over the world love making scrapbooks. If you’re good at it and love it, why not share you knowledge and passion with others through an e-book. Find sources for handmade paper and sell that and other supplies online. You have a niche the big guns don’t even know about now.
You’re going to have to do more than just have stuff to sell, though. You’re going to have to do something unique to generate traffic. What else about you makes you unique? Take another look around. Consider that alpine skiing equipment in the garage for a moment. You and your family could take it and go on a weekend cross country ski trip. Take snapshots along the way. When you get home, make a start to finish scrapbook and videotape the whole process. Post the video online and share it with others.
Don’t even try to go head to head against the big guns online. You, like the vast majority of affiliate marketers will just be left in their dust. Find your own niche, one that they don’t even care about. If you’re sharing something you really love, your enthusiasm will show. That, combined with the traffic generating tools that are available online will be your ticket to success.
